Shark Tank

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

This pattern was designed for A Hundred Ravens‘ Urban Legends Club. The theme was Sharks on a Subway. The pattern uses only 400 yd of fingering weight yarn — even when made up to size 5X! Since the theme was sharks, I wanted an airy pattern that could be worn in the summer, perhaps over a swimsuit at the beach. I picked this particular netting pattern because it reminded me of bubbles in the ocean. The edging is my own invention — an abstract homage to shark teeth.

Shark Tooth Border

Close the gap at the bottom edge of the Tank as shown.

Thread the 6-inch tail that was left at the beginning through a yarn needle. Insert the yarn needle into the second ch below the beginning ch sp of rnd 1.
Pull the tail through the ch to close the gap. Wrap the tail around the ch sp twice more to secure, then knot it and weave in remaining tail.

With WS facing, join yarn with sl st in any ch-3 sp along bottom edge.

Rnd 1. Ch 1, (sc, hdc, ch 1, dc, ch 1, tr) in same ch-3 sp as joining, ch 3, (tr, ch 1, dc, ch 1, hdc, sc) in next ch-3 sp; shark tooth made. *(Sc, hdc, ch 1, dc, ch 1, tr) in next ch-3 sp, ch 3, (tr, ch 1, dc, ch 1, hdc, sc) in next ch-3 sp; rep from * around. Skip last sc, join with sl st in first sc of rnd.

Finish off. Weave in all ends. Steam block for the best finish; it will stretch out the netting to its final size and set the stitches in their final shape, which will improve the way the garment hangs on the body.
