Just Like Mommy’s Sandals

I have been looking for a cute pair of sandals for Little Lovely to wear this summer. Unfortunately Little Lovely has a bit more than her fair share of baby fat, including little fat pads on the tops of her feet, which make them too chubby to fit into pretty much any baby shoe I have found.

Of course, you know what they say about necessity being the mother of invention.

Since Little Lovely isn’t walking yet anyway, I decided to crochet her a pair of barefoot sandals. And since I was crocheting them myself, I decided to make them to match my own flip flops.

Materials

• Size 3 crochet cotton thread
• 2.75 mm steel crochet hook
• Yarn needle

Size: 0-24 months

Skill Level: Intermediate

Note: Each sandal is made up of three flowers. The instructions below are for one sandal. Repeat for the second sandal.

First Flower

Ch 6. Join with sl st in first ch to form ring.

Rnd 1. Ch 1, 6 sc in ring. Join with sl st in first sc. 6 sc.

Rnd 2. Ch 1, (sc, ch 3, sc) in flo of ea sc around. Join with sl st in first sc. 6 petals.

Rnd 3. Ch 1, (sc, ch 6, sc) in blo of ea sc in Rnd 1. Ch 12, join with sl st in first sc. Finish off. 6 petals and 1 toe ring.

Second Flower

Ch 6. Join with sl st in first ch to form ring.

Rnd 1. Ch 1, 6 sc in ring. Join with sl st in first sc. 6 sc.

Rnd 2. Ch 1, (sc, ch 3, sc) in flo of ea sc around. Join with sl st in first sc. 6 petals.

Rnd 3. Ch 1, sc in blo of 1st sc in Rnd 1, ch 3, sl st in 3rd petal of First Flower, ch 3, sc in blo of 1st sc in Rnd 1, sc in blo of 2nd sc in Rnd 1, ch 3, sl st in 2nd petal of First Flower, ch 3, sc in blo of 2nd sc in Rnd 1, (sc, ch 6, sc) in blo of ea rem sc in Rnd 1. Join with sl st in first sc. Finish off. 6 petals.

Third Flower

Ch 6. Join with sl st in first ch to form ring.

Rnd 1. Ch 1, 6 sc in ring. Join with sl st in first sc. 6 sc.

Rnd 2. Ch 1, (sc, ch 3, sc) in flo of ea sc around. Join with sl st in first sc. 6 petals.

Rnd 3. Ch 1, sc in blo of 1st sc in Rnd 1, ch 3, sl st in 5th petal of First Flower, ch 3, sc in blo of 1st sc in Rnd 1, sc in blo of 2nd sc in Rnd 1, ch 3, sl st in 4th petal of First Flower, ch 3, sc in blo of 2nd sc in Rnd 1, sc in blo of 3rd sc in Rnd 1, ch 3, sl st in 6th petal of Second Flower, ch 3, sc in blo of 3rd sc in Rnd 1, (sc, ch 6, sc) in blo of ea rem sc in Rnd 1. Join with sl st in first sc. Finish off. 6 petals.

Ties

Join thread with sl st in 4th petal of Second Flower. Ch 45. Finish off. Join thread with sl st in 5th petal of Third Flower. Ch 45. Finish off.
Weave in all ends.
