Companion Cube

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

I am very excited to be announcing this new pattern today. It’s quite geeky, but was perfectly fitting for Nick’s birthday last month. How many of you are fans of the game Portal?

The software company Valve (the makers of Portal) has graciously granted me permission to publish the pattern for a Companion Cube applique. But if you’d prefer to make your own actual cube, simply make 6 of these babies, sew them all together into a cube shape, and you’re good to go.

Copyright Notice: Valve is only letting me publish this pattern on the condition that it not be used for commercial purposes. In other words, this pattern is for personal use only. It may not be used to make things that you intend to sell. Please respect Valve’s wishes on this. They’re being nice to us by letting me publish it, so we can be nice to them in return. Also, it’s the law.

Stuffed Cube Finishing

If a 3-dimensional stuffed cube is desired, make 6 appliques in either thread or yarn. You will obviously end up with a much larger cube if yarn is used. Sew the appliques together in a cube shape, stuffing firmly before the last seam is sewn.
